Immigrants coming to the U.S. are often in the news today, but the controversy relates to immigrants who are doing this illegally. The Karen, however, are coming here at the invitation of the U.S. government through the Federal Refugee Resettlement Program. They enter the country legally and are on a legally-prescribed path to obtain U.S. citizenship should they choose to do so. So no, the Karen are not the illegal immigrants coming to the U.S. we hear about in the news.
